The Fictional Dictionary of Bad Language is a kindle ebook. It was a side project I worked on from time to time.
The Fictional Dictionary of Bad Language started as a notebook of likely sounding swears for use in fiction. Over time, it grew into an amusing collection of weird-sounding words. I wanted to share it with the wider world and see of other writers would use my made-up words in their fiction.
As you can see, The Fictional Dictionary of Bad Language charted quickly in the Kindle dictionaries list.
Sometimes, in fiction writing, you need a suitably exotic insult or swear but for reasons of readership, self-censorship or design the use of swears and insults common to your culture are not suitable for your characters to use. After all, we all swear but sometimes in creative fiction, while a situation may call for a good cathartic outburst, the language usually reserved for it is not available.
Over time, I have cooked up many funny sounding insults, invented fake words, and found many obscure and funny-sounding words which I also added. Not to mention adding satirical references to particularly unpopular or stupid political figures.
What people are saying about The Fictional Dictionary of Bad Language
A fun read. Especially useful when you need to say or write something not so nice, but in a frolicking manner.
